BACK IN THE WWW. & WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO.

carl fixed our computer. start from scratch again. except with all our old crap. the joy of several hard drives! it's nice to be back. though my google reader is getting ridiculous. 487 entries. i might just mark it all as read without even scrolling down. has anyone said/posted anything interesting?

in other news,

#1; what carl brought home from oxfam today:

#2; here's a picture of me at roller derby practice on sunday.

#3; on saturday me & carl made an epic journey to MADE zine/art fest in tunbridge wells. it included a bus to maidstone and then another to tunbridge wells through pretty villages full of houses that looked like they'd been there for hundreds of years, covered in vines and other greenery and crumbling graveyards. pretty.

the village i wanna live in when i'm old.

yes, hadlow has a "typical portuguese restaurant". not a traditional, TYPICAL.

ellie from hoojemaflap distro & brighton zine fest painting something mysterious on the 'wall'. for some reason i forgot to have a look when i went to the toilet, or to buy more tea (for carl, i'm still too foreign for tea) and cakes. now i'll never know!

carl & the sushi table.

we were kinda so bored we drew all this on the 'wall' behind us. though to be honest we were supposed to do that anyway.

it was pretty quiet & carl was pretty restless & bored, which kind made me extra restless & bored too. i guess tunbridge wells isn't the zine capital of the world.. i think we sold about £20 worth zines, which left us £5 profit after the bus & tea and cakes. i won't count the KFC we had when we got home to the equation as we had to eat anyway.. the journey back took absolute ages because when we got to maidstone we went to sainsburys to get some salad, ciders & breakfast for sunday and when we got back to the bus station we'd just missed the last 101 (fast bus) for an hour, turns out they're not every 15 minutes after 7pm on a saturday.. so we had to get the 135/155 which went through aylesford and all sorts of weird little village types between maidstone and chatham including going round rochester. it took more than twice as long! it was definitely the scenic route. it was pretty. kent is so nice and twee and i ended up living in the least twee place in whole of kent. srsly. then again, tunbridge wells was a little bit too nice, proper, posh / middle class for me. we watched the nice middle class kids talking about going out for the night and i just really missed gobby chavs fightin on bus stops shoving each other in the semi busy road. (true story down the street from mine. on a thursday night few months ago) keepin' it real or whatever. i know i always moan about chatham but i think i do kinda secretly love it. it's just the kinda place i'm from.

#4; i finally managed to print your pretty face is going straight to hell #11! i'll post info & put it on vampire sushi very very soon. probably friday/weekend. i probably won't get a chance tomorrow cos i think i'm going to folkestone to see whip it with the other roller biatches, KRG go go go!

NEW TYPEWRITER.

remington quiet-riter

last sunday carl spotted a typewriter in the oxfam he works in, and i kinda made him get it for me. he was too knackered to carry it home on wednesday (the next time he was working) but he put it aside, and today he carried it home. the carry handle actually broke half way here and it rolled down the street by sainsburys. it's fine though, and it's quite possibly the best typewriter i've ever had. it's my fourth or fifth one, not including carl's typewriter. the old ones were left back home when i moved here, and i think my mum's got rid of all of them but one, a pretty little baby blue portable one i got at a fleamarket. she's chucked my favourite one though, the electric one i got from my school for free because they didn't use them anymore. i just had to buy a new cartridge for it. i miss it cos it had a different typeface. nice to have a variety. i really want one of those cursive ones though.. i'm sure ciara has one and every time i read her zines i get typewriter envy.

I WISH I WAS A SNAKE

i wish i was a snake, originally uploaded by Tukru Loves You.

this week carl brought me home this mens zara t-shirt from oxfam. i really love the print (kitties!) but it's one of those weird frankenstein's monster things that pretend to be something they're not. in this case t-shirt + flimsy cardigan. it doesn't look bad, but it's making me feel hella weird cos i can't wear a cardigan with it! that'd be like wearing two cardigans, even if the other one is only a pretend one. boo. i am nothing without my cardigan! oh well, maybe it's one to wear when it's too hot to wear an actual cardigan? to keep up appearances.

i do hate it when they (especially high street shops, not that i'd know about any other kind of shop..) make shit like this. cardigan t-shirts, and those jumpers that look like you're wearing a shirt underneath. what the fuck is the point? i guess they're trying to save you the bother of wearing / buying both. 2 in 1, like shampoo with conditioner mixed in.

oh by the way, in case you were wondering about what's behind me, it's this:

STANDARD BOOK OF SPELLS GRADE AWESOME

today while i was still at work, carl texted me "hey diddums can you get some triple A batteries. theyre for your present i just found for you. Xxxxx <3" obviously i was intrigued. so i got some batteries from work and walked up to uncle steve's to cuddle cats & get our easter eggs (i didn't have my keys and carl wouldn't be back from oxfam til an hour after i finished work so, might as well) and this is what i was handed when i got home!

book of spells!

book of spells!

book of spells!

a HARRY POTTER BOOK OF SPELLS electronic game that came out around the same time as the first film. it's pretty much the awesomest thing that ever awesomed. obviously it's a bit of a lamer electronic game with info about things only featured in the first film (no luna, boo!) but it also functions as a kids' pda. it's got a phone/address book, personal notes, rememberall (ee!) calculator and alarm clock. unfortunately it won't let me have the right year though. only goes between 2000 and 2009. oh well, i will live in the past. and i'm cool with that. i tried to find it on the internets but as it's kinda old, this was the best i could find.

in other news, carl also brought me a really nice feeling grey cardigan i'm lovingly wearing right now. work was ok. selling shit on play now too. *rolls eyes* and i got good post. i've received two trades this week so far and both of them, i've been a bad girl and not done my end of the trade yet. boo boo boo. gonna do my best to do something about them saturday at the latest. sorry emilja & amanda, i suxxors. this is why i should sort out trades the minute i suggest them. wrap 'em up right away, put them in the 'to send' pile.. fail. also, i made notes about saturday night's playlist and i think i may be a little genius, even if i say so myself.

DOLLS IN RECORD LAND.

just browsing

dolls & records

roller girl!

emma also brought one of her blythe dolls over, and they had a little adventure in the record purgatory.

RECORD PURGATORY.

this afternoon emma came around and we went to rochester. carl was working at oxfam so we went to see him as he closed and while he was counting the money, he led us into the deepest bowels of oxfam. mainly we sat in the record bit and listened to slowdive & an elvis costello album that had a pretty fold out reversible cover.

i said to emma "it's like heaven!" and then realized at least half the records around us were most likely pretty rubbish. so she suggested it's the purgatory.

we also went through some other stuff in the backroom. i found a couple of kitschy prints carl's gonna buy for me next time he goes in. and there was also a big box of these strange books from the fifties about foreign countries & they came with colour pictures on stamp paper that you could stick in. me and carl once found some in a skip. i found some excellent ones in there, including ALL OF THE NORDIC COUNTRIES. yes, including finland! + some other gems. my want pile ended up being 12 of them. oh dear. none of this stuff was priced, hopefully it won't come up to loads.. i think i'm going to go see carl again next sunday (he's usually in on sundays but obvs it wasn't open yesterday) on my way back from london town, and then we can walk home together <3.
