HEADS WILL ROLL

i went to the fundraiser of my old roller derby league / team, kent roller girls, this friday evening. as usual these days, i didn't manage to take many photos. i was too busy being awkward and too poor to get drunk and silly and less awkward.

amber's awesome shoe + awesomer pug tattoo!

my outfit:
peter pan collar dress - primark
cardigan - pop up vintage shop at deaf cat in rochester
silver zebra leggins - tokmanni in joensuu

owl ring & snake brooch - sugarmouse
owl earrings - primark
name necklace - heidi seeker
hello kitty necklace - christmas present from carl's nana joyce

i also donated a zine grab bag to their raffle. about 30 zines including a couple of mine and a big pile of flyers!

i've got a few more grab bags available, each of those have 15 zines (10 x half size, 5 x quarter size, as i seem to have a lot more half sizes i'm not keeping than quarter size zines)

KENT ROLLER GIRLS

i went to kent roller girls practice on sunday because a) it was in rochester (usual place in herne bay booked up for roller hockey or something) and in the afternoon rather than crack of dawn and b) we had a meeting about important stuff at alex' house beforehand. i made some tiny vegan cupcakes and most of them were eaten, even though they don't go with the roller derby work out meal plan.. then again, that didn't start til yesterday! i'd do it but.. a) i'm lazy and b) my wrist is still a wee bit too weak to trust me with any exercise that requires me to rest on my arm/hand strenght, and there's a fair bit of press ups and planks in that workout. maybe next time?

i was watching the others skate and i almost cried cos i wanted to skate so much too. (fuck almost, there was definitely a solitary emo tear rolling down my cheek as everyone else warmed up.) i've got a check up with the doctor next monday, if he says it's cool, i'll be back on skates the sunday after that! anyway, i took some pictures.

I’D MUCH RATHER BE WITH THE GIRLS

derby feet

krg-flyers

i'm all derby'd up and derby'd out at the same time. i wish i had my very own skates already so i could spend all of my holiday skating around the lines and getting used to the extra height and being on wheels. yep. i'm off work for a whole week. feels weird. i've got a bunch of things i want to do, like:

♥ work on your pretty face is going to hell #12 and hopefully get it almost done.
♥ print more zines. mainly more #10's & #11's.
♥ cook and bake proper, since i've got the time.
♥ hang out with sophie & meg.
♥ get vampire sushi distro in order, to be messed up again by tabling at the birmingham zine fest in couple of weeks. it's a big fat mess after a zine event.
♥ tidy up the bedroom & hopefully get it sorted in other ways too.

ROLLER DERBY, BITCHES.

this morning i went to KENT ROLLER GIRLS' first practise in herne bay with ellie, and new friends emily & veronica. it was ace. skating was a lot easier than i expected. i was so wobbly when i first got on the skates and thought there is no fucking way i can do this but within five minutes i was doing it! yaye. obviously i didn't manage to take many pictures, i was a bit busy skating. but i managed the above few while having a drink & then when everyone was getting out of their skates. but i already found some pictures on facebook. quick sharp. here's one of me on the floor after i did a seriously epic tumble on my arse;

seriously, it fucking hurt. full speed on my arse. it must have looked pretty bad cos everyone gathered round me going "you alright there?" i was. i'm walking very very gingerly though. it wasn't so bad until i got out of the car at ellie's and started walking home. also, i smacked my left hand on the floor real hard. it's got a faint bruise already starting to show (it's a hint more purple than my other hand) ouch. but that's what i get for showing off. and i did have fun. i'm just not looking forward to how much pain i'm going to be tomorrow. when all the other aches from actually doing exercise kick in. but i think i'm going to keep doing this. it was good times, hanging out with other grrrls and my favourite bit of the info sheet we got at the end is:

DON'T:
- invite friends or family to join as refs/coaches/volunteers if you think they are only in it to get a date (and don't be afraid to call them out on it, no one wants creeps in derby)

i'm obviously getting involved with the right sport. & next time i have a health check up the nurse can't give me a dirty worried look for not exercising. i was covered in sweat at the end. and there were massive dark sweat patches on the knees of my turquoise trousers. so did everyone else, but they were all wearing black leggins or whatever so mine were the only ones that showed up.

i'll write more about this in my zine.. loving the roller derby!
